Carlo Acutis, Pier Giorgio Frassati to be canonized on September 7

The canonization of Pier Giorgio Frassati has been moved to September 7. Along with Carlo Acutis, the two "young saints" will be canonized together.
Pope Leo XIV announced today, June 13, during an ordinary consistory at the Vatican, that Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati will be canonized together on Sunday, September 7.
Originally scheduled for April (Acutis) and August (Frassati), Carlo's canonization was postponed following the death of Pope Francis in April. While many observers expected it would be re-scheduled to coincide with the August date originally announced for Frassati, instead, they will both be in September.
A second group of seven saints is scheduled for October 19.
Carlo Acutis: The “God Geek”
Born in 1991 and passing away in 2006 from leukemia at age 15, Carlo Acutis has become one of the most recognizable Catholic figures of the 21st century. A passionate web developer and evangelist, he created a popular website cataloging Eucharistic miracles from around the world.
This digital devotion earned him the affectionate titles “God’s geek” and “cyber-apostle.” His tomb in Assisi, where he was beatified in 2020, has become a pilgrimage site, especially for youth and families.
His canonization was originally scheduled for April 27, during the Jubilee for Adolescents and Divine Mercy Sunday, but had to be delayed due to the vacant papal seat following Pope Francis’ passing on April 21.
Pier Giorgio Frassati: Joyful Witness in the World
Pier Giorgio Frassati, born in 1901 to a prominent family in Turin, Italy, died at 24 from polio contracted while caring for the poor. An avid mountain climber and activist, he is beloved for his dynamic blend of spiritual fervor and social commitment.
Beatified by John Paul II in 1990, Frassati has long been a role model at World Youth Day gatherings. His canonization had been informally set for August 3 to conclude the Youth Jubilee that will be held at Rome’s Tor Vergata campus (not at St. Peter's), but Pope Leo XIV has opted for a later date, likely due to the logistical challenges of hosting such a large-scale event during Rome’s sweltering summer.
