Are these 8 behaviors keeping you from God’s grace?
Francis Mary - June 2025
Being Catholic is more than just attending Sunday Mass or wearing a crucifix-it is a way of life rooted in faith, love, obedience, and holiness. Yet, many who identify as Catholic continue to live in ways that directly contradict the teachings of the Church. If we are serious about following Christ, we must honestly examine our actions and ask: Am I truly living as a faithful Catholic?
Here are some behaviors that no good Catholic should continue doing:
1. Skipping Sunday Mass Without Serious Reason
The Mass is the highest form of worship. Intentionally missing Sunday Mass without grave cause (like illness or caregiving) is a mortal sin. Neglecting it weakens your soul and distances you from God's grace.
2. Receiving the Eucharist in a State of Mortal Sin
The Catechism clearly teaches that we must not receive Holy Communion without first going to Confession if we are in a state of serious sin. To do otherwise is a sacrilege. It’s not just a ritual-it’s the Body of Christ.
3. Living Together Before Marriage
Cohabitation outside of sacramental marriage is a serious sin and goes against Church teaching. It may seem acceptable in today’s culture, but as Catholics, we are called to holiness, not convenience.
4. Ignoring Confession
A good Catholic regularly examines their conscience and goes to confession. If you haven’t been in years, it’s time to return. Jesus waits to forgive you.
5. Using Contraception or Supporting Abortion
The Church teaches that every human life is sacred from conception to natural death. Using artificial contraception or supporting abortion in any form contradicts the sanctity of life.
6. Gossip, Lies, and Slander
Your words have power. Spreading gossip, telling lies, or damaging someone’s reputation is sinful. A good Catholic speaks with truth and charity.
7. Refusing to Forgive
You cannot call yourself a follower of Christ while holding hatred or bitterness in your heart. Forgiveness is not optional-it is commanded by Jesus Himself.
8. Neglecting Prayer and Scripture
If you never pray, never read the Bible, and rarely think of God-how can you claim to love Him? Faith without relationship is just a label.
None of us are perfect-but remaining in these behaviors without repentance is dangerous to the soul. Christ calls us not to be lukewarm, but faithful, holy, and set apart.
If this message touched your heart, it’s not too late. God’s mercy is waiting for you.
