Beyond Gifts and Decorations: 12 Forgotten Truths About Christmas
George Kommattam - December 2025
Over time, Christmas has slowly been filled with gift exchanges, bright stars, Santa Claus, and endless decorations. These traditions can be fun and joyful, but they can also draw our attention away from the heart of the season. In the middle of the noise and celebration, we often forget what matters most. A pause is sometimes needed to rediscover the deeper truths of Christmas-truths that go beyond the wrapping paper and lights.
1. Christmas is about JESUS!
The joy of this blessed season is not in the fancy things we have. It is not about gifts, not about bonuses, not about parties, and not about delicious food. We must never lose Jesus this Christmas.
2. The essence of Christmas is JESUS
Giving is only the result of Christmas. We must first acknowledge what we received and recognize that Jesus is our greatest gift. We gratefully give because we were generously gifted with the greatest Gift.
3. True Christmas is JESUS
We must not look at Christmas in a consumeristic view that we must have lots of money and lots of new things, because Christmas is not about them. Remember: Jesus had nothing on the first Christmas!
4. The center of Christmas is JESUS
Santa Claus can be faked. Christmas Trees are plastic. Gifts can be cheap. Carols and songs can mislead. But when we set our hearts on Jesus, all will make sense because Christ is real!
5. Christmas celebrates JESUS!
We celebrate Christ by sharing Him to make every day Christmas. With Christ is love. With Christ is peace. With Christ is the assurance that God cares for us. With Christ is salvation!
6. Christmas is JESUS with us!
God chose to become one of us and one with us. He is never distant, and He is never a stranger to us. He feels us. He understands us. He is with us. He cares for us. He is just a HeartLine away!
7. Christmas is God's love in JESUS!
Let us never doubt God's love. Heaven is never too far from the earth for God to choose to be born like us, without a decent home to call His own, because He wanted to reside with us in our hearts!
8. Te best gift ohf Christmas is JESUS!
We do not ask for gifts but we give gifts. And the greatest gift we can give is the love of Jesus and His presence in our lives. Christmas is not in the price tag but in the love tag of our gifts.
9. Christmas is JESUS entering our lives
Let us desire to be configured with Christ more and more this Christmas. Let us be excited with Jesus entering into our hearts and living in our lives. Let us be welcoming to Him.
10. Christmas must lead us back to JESUS!
The birth of Jesus here on earth is an invitation for our own birth with Him in Heaven. Let us amend our lives that we may become ready to welcome Him, to love Him, to imitate Him, and to be with Him.
11. Christmas begins the mission of JESUS!
Jesus was laid in a feeding box of animals to signify that He is to become food for us so that we can experience God's mercy and that we may accept the salvation He offers us in the name of love.
12. Christmas is all about JESUS!
All things are fading, but only when we hold on to the real and lasting meaning of the Season of Christmas. Let us not busy ourselves with unnecessary stuff. Eyes on Jesus. Only Jesus.
