Bleeding statue of Sacred Heart of Jesus in Rosano
Chris George - April 2020
The Sacred Heart Statue in the monastery church in Rosano, Italy bled and wept many times and is widely venerated. This statue was donated by a devout person in 1948 to fulfill a promise made during World War II. The Heart is at the centre of his chest, surrounded by a crown of thorns.
It was in the evening of April 4, 1948 during the chanting of vespers, people noticed for the first time that drops as if of blood were falling from the eyes of the statue. After two months in June another miracle occured - the flow of blood. These events occurred repeatedly between 1948 and 1950 and were witnessed by nuns and many other people.
Many sworn testimonies of priests, preachers and visitors along with medical analyses of the blood as well as finger towels soaked with blood are kept in the monastery archives
On November14,1950, according to the order of the Holy Office the statue had been removed and kept it in a secret location. It was replaced in to Rosano in 1952.
The weeping and bleeding miracle were considered inexplicable from a natural and human point of view. Bishop Giovanni Giorgis, saw in these events an appeal from the Lord 'to fidelity, reparation and prayer.'
